Since 2019, Abol Tabol has been serving wholesome, freshly cooked meals for just ₹5, making sure no one goes hungry—and no one loses their dignity while receiving help. What began as a small, self-funded effort has grown into a movement, supported by countless kind-hearted people and communities. Many choose to sponsor meals on special days—birthdays, anniversaries, or in memory of loved ones—so that on those days, every plate is served completely free. This is our longest-running and most cherished program, reaching thousands each year. Wedding Gift Project
A wedding is meant to be a day of happiness, but for many underprivileged families, it can bring more worry than joy. The Wedding Gift Project was born from the desire to change that — to make sure love and celebration are never overshadowed by financial hardship. Through this initiative, we gift essential wedding items to brides and grooms from economically challenged backgrounds. Each bride receives a beautiful saree, a matching blouse, and other wedding garments. The groom is given a traditional dhoti and two sacks of premium rice — a blessing for both their new life together and the meals they’ll share. These gifts are more than fabric and food — they are symbols of compassion, dignity, and togetherness. They lift a burden from parents, restore pride on a sacred day, and remind families that their community stands beside them. Uthsober Upohar
Durga Puja is more than a festival in Bengal — it’s a feeling, a celebration of togetherness, tradition, and joy. But for many, financial hardships mean they can only watch the celebrations from the sidelines. Uthsober Upohar was created to change that — to make sure the joy of Puja is shared by all. As Debipaksha begins, we honour the heartbeat of the festival — our dhakis (traditional drummers) — by gifting new clothes to over 200 of them and their families, recognising their priceless role in bringing the Puja spirit alive. Our celebration doesn’t stop there. We reach out across the Dhupguri block to gift new clothes to 3,000–3,500 people, from little children to elders, so they too can wear something new with pride during the festivities. The sparkle in a child’s eyes, the shy smile of a grandmother holding her new saree — these are the moments that make it all worthwhile. We are deeply grateful to our well-wishers and supporters from around the world. Your kindness and generosity light up countless homes, making Durga Puja a celebration for everyone. We provided emergency relief in the form of food supplies, essential medicines, and critical healthcare support to vulnerable individuals and families across affected communities. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, we also stepped in to arrange and distribute lifesaving oxygen cylinders and concentrators at a time when resources were scarce. This initiative saved countless lives and brought hope to those battling the virus. Our Emergency Relief & Health Assistance program continues to operate today, extending support to those in need during medical crises, natural disasters, and community health emergencies. This remains one of our most vital and ongoing missions — driven by compassion, urgency, and the belief that no one should suffer due to lack of access to basic health and survival needs. Electric Mortuary Freezer
Losing a loved one is never easy, and families often face the pain of rushing final goodbyes due to lack of proper facilities. At Abol Tabol, we provide Electric Mortuary Freezers to preserve mortal remains with care and respect, allowing time for relatives to arrive, rituals to be performed, and farewells to be heartfelt. Our units are temperature-controlled (up to -20°C), hygienic, and available to any family in need, free of cost—regardless of religion, caste, or financial status. In urgent situations, our volunteers deliver and set up the freezer at homes, hospitals, or community spaces within hours. Since launching this service, we’ve helped hundreds of families across districts find peace in their most difficult moments. Wheels of Hope & Stand By Me
At Abol Tabol, we believe movement is more than a physical act—it’s freedom, dignity, and connection to life. Our Wheels of Hope & Stand By Me initiative provides wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, and other mobility aids free of cost to the elderly, disabled, and mobility-impaired. In underprivileged communities, many suffer silently due to age, disability, or injury, unable to afford these basic tools. This leaves them isolated and dependent. We aim to change that—restoring independence and joy, one mobility aid at a time. Our support includes sturdy wheelchairs, reliable crutches and walkers, community assessments, and home delivery for bedridden beneficiaries. Whether in urban slums, rural villages, or disaster-hit areas, each mobility aid we provide means a life regained. At Abol Tabol, we believe small acts can bring big relief. The Umbrella Project is our way of offering comfort and dignity to those who spend their days outdoors. Each year, we distribute sturdy, high-quality umbrellas—transforming them into moving shelters, portable shade trees, and symbols of compassion. For some, it’s a respite from heat; for others, it’s protection for health, a sign of respect, and a reminder that they are seen and valued. Save the Green Dhupguri Railway Station
At Dhupguri Railway Station in West Bengal, a redevelopment project has led to widespread tree felling, threatening the station’s decades-old green cover. Abol Tabol launched “Save the Green Dhupguri” to protect this natural heritage while advocating for environment-sensitive infrastructure. Our objectives are clear—prevent indiscriminate deforestation, promote sustainable railway development, engage the community in conservation, and ensure compensatory afforestation with biodiversity protection. Actions include memorandum submissions to railway authorities, awareness drives through posters, social media, and street theatre, petitions and signature campaigns, collaborations with environmental experts, and public plantation drives. The movement has mobilized strong local support, initiated dialogue with officials, and led to a pause in further tree felling pending review. We call on citizens, students, environmentalists, and NGOs to join us. Together, we can save Dhupguri’s trees and set a precedent for green, responsible development.
Nourishing Hope in the Tea Gardens
Abol Tabol, meaning “joyfully unconventional,” is a grassroots non-profit committed to ensuring no tea garden worker or family goes hungry. We cook, care, and connect—bringing nutritious meals and dignity to remote communities. Our Mobile Food Kitchens arrive at dawn, serving hot rice, dal, vegetables, and protein-rich lentils to strengthen bodies and spirits. Through Community Nourishing Hubs, created with worker cooperatives, we offer safe spaces to share meals, stories, and mutual support. Festivals like Durga Puja turn our kitchens into Seasonal Feast Festivals—where traditional dishes and cultural performances celebrate community life. We also integrate Health & Nutrition Education, empowering families with knowledge about balanced diets and healthy cooking.
